2018 Trip Details
Dates: August 23 - September 5
Expected to depart Nashville on August 23rd, arriving in Tanzania on the 24th
And departing Tanzania on the evening of September 4th, arriving in Nashville on the 5th
Itinerary: August 24th through September 4th
Day 1: Arrive in Moshi, get settled at the guest house, rest and adjust to time zone
Day 2: Free day to explore Moshi town, buy souvenirs, swim at Honey Badger Lodge
Day 3: Mt. Kilimanjaro day climb along the Marangu Route to Mandara Hut
Mandara Hut is the first hut along the Marangu Route. The walking starts from the starting point of Marangu Route (1970m) it’s just an hour drive from Moshi Town to the Park Gate (starting point) and three hours walking from the gate to Mandara Hut (2700 m). Enjoy walking in the Montane forest where Mandara Hut is situated on the forest belt border just below the Maundi Crater. Walking in the montane forest and shortly in the heath and moorland vegetation with beautiful endemic flora to Maundi Crater you will enjoy the breathtaking view of magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro, also you can get the chance to see varieties of birds, primates i.e. Black and White Colobus Monkey and varieties of trees and beautiful flowers.
Days 4-8: Teach children at First Chance Education Centre, building on the curriculum developed by RISE. This will include daily read alouds, yoga, breathing, music and movement, arts and crafts, and much more. We will also work at the school to clean, refurbish, and create a better learning environment for the children. There will be so much laughing, hugging, singing, holding hands, playing, and you'll never want to leave.
Day 9: Depart for a visit to a local Maasai village and then #joysafari
Day 10-11: #Joysafari in Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crate
There will hopefully be lions and no tigers and no bears, SO many elephants, zebras, and antelopes. The views are unlike anything you've seen before. The magic of Tanzania will for sure leave an imprint on your heart.
Day 12: Wrap up day to finish work at the school, souvenir shopping, packing. Depart in the afternoon/evening for Kilimanjaro Airport and start the journey back
Housing: We will stay in a house right near the school with running water, electricity (when available), bathrooms, showers, and a kitchen. It is within walking distance to First Chance Education Centre and the Honey Badger Lodge.
Food: A cook will prepare the majority of our meals- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There will be some evenings that we will go to the restaurants in town.
$3,500 per person
$500 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration. Final acceptance date for registration is May 1, 2018.

Fundraising: Each person will be responsible for raising a minimum of $3,500 for the trip. This will include housing, activities, most meals, in-country transport, visas, and the projects at school. We will work together to help everyone achieve their goal.
Not included in this fundraising:
- Round-trip flights
- Any Vaccines (depending on your insurance and previous vaccinations, this could cost up to $500)
- Trip Insurance and Health Insurance - we will let you know what to sign up for but this will be an individual cost of roughly $100
